Slovak men's treaining meet in Bratislava 2006 Aug 28
For gymnastics-slovakia.com from Martin Zvalo:
On Saturday August 26th had slovak men 2nd training meet in Bratislava. Experienced seniors Samuel Piasecky and Alex Benko were joined by junior Kriška Samuel and only 14 years old Michnák Slavomír (all from Slavia UK Bratislava).   In spite of the fact, that gymnasts competed in the middle of intensive training we saw very nice routine on pommel horse by Alex Benka with a high score of 15.100
Next step before upcoming World Championships is International Championships of Slovakia in Bratislava September 9th

Slovakia without women's team at 2006 Worlds 2006 June 18
Under the headline Sekerova refused Europeans slovak newspaper SME informs that Slovak Gymnastics Federation will send only 2 women to compete at 2006 World Championships in Aarhus (DEN). The main reason is the fact that in USA living Zuzana Sekerova who was supposed to be the leader of Slovak team did not agreed to come for one month long training camp in Trnava before Worlds. In this case Slovak national team coach Krekanova eliminated Sekerova from not only 2006 Worlds, but also Worlds 2007 which will be qualification for 2008 Olympics.
What Zuzana Sekerova has to say?
"I am sorry that coach Krekanova thinks I am speculating... The truth is I can not leave school for one month. What can I do? I understand Slovak Gymnastics Federation position and wish good luck in Aarhus. I hope and I believe that the girls who will represent Slovakia at Worlds will do their best!!!"
I don't think women's gymnastics in Slovakia is so great that it can ignore gymnast like Sekerova (two-time Olympian, winner of World Cup meet in Chile, 6th on beam at 2004 European Championships). More useful would be to set qualifying limit at some international competition and if she passes send her to Aarhus.

Piasecky 3rd in parallel bars qualification in Ghent 2006 May 13
Information from Ghent for Gymnastics-Slovakia.com from Martin Zvalo:
Just one week after a great success at 27th European Championships in Volos (GRE) Samuel Piasecky again proved in Ghent (BEL) that he is one of the best world gymnasts on parallel bars. During Saturday's qualification he got the 3rd highest score 14.800 and let only two world champions Petkovsek Mitja from Slovenia (15.650) and Tomita Hiroyuki from Japan (15.200) place higher in qualification. Piasecky performed his routine in a great style.
Mistake in the last tumbling pass on floor exercise send him to 22nd place (13.700) and about 1 cm too far flight during Kovac-salto on horizontal bar result in 19 place (13.300).

First medal from Winter Olympics in Slovak history 2006 Feb 17
    Radoslav Zidek Slovakia
    Radoslav Zidek Slovakia
Yes, I know the difference between gymnastics and snowboarding. And yes, I remember the name of my website. But I have to let my visitors know, that little tiny country in the heart of Europe - Slovakia with 5.5 millions people won first medal from Winter Olympic Games since became independent country in 1993. Thanks to Radoslav Zidek (pictured left in USA Today special Torino Olympics section) who took silver medal in snowboardcross competition. By the way don't tell me that good snowboarder doesn't need gymnastics training.
    Congratulations Radoslav Zidek!

Two times Olympian and 6th best on balance beam (20th in All Around Finals) from last European Championships Zuzana Sekerova annonced February 10 on her official website www.sekerova.com:
“ I wasn't able to accept an offer from Slovak Gymnastics Federation (SGF)to compete at the European Championships because I wasn't able to satisfy some of the requirements they had. I also do not know much about the new rules in gymnastics for this year so I would not be ready skill wise. I am still hoping though that we are going to come to an agreement with SGF and I will be able to make a showing at the Worlds this year.”

What's going on, Katka Prokesova? 2006 Feb 02
    Katka prokesova Gymnastics Slovakia
On February 1st celebrated slovak 2004 olympian in trampoline Katarina Prokesova thirtieth birthday. Along with the best wishes we asked her “What's the news Katka?” Following is her reply:

... Yesterday February 1st I turned thirty! Thanks for the congratulations. What's new?... During Holidays I went to an almost 3 weeks long tour - Feuerwerk der Turkunst. It's gymnastics and art show which travels from town to town mostly in Niedersachsenu, but we went also to Berlin. This show visited 90 thousands people (The best show in Europe). We had an act on double mini tramp and we were dressed as dead people accompanied with music Thriller from M. Jacksona. It was great because we had a live music and singing... Unfortunately just before the end of the tour I broke my leg and last 4 days of the tour I was just a spectator. I 'll have cast on leg another 3 weeks and after that I'll slowly start with my training again.
My first meet will be in the end of March if there are no complications.
But for 20th European Championships I'll be top fit and I am looking forward to it.
So that's my update, Ciao Katarina

Slovak men's team on the way to Volos 2006 April 30
Jozef Konecny, Samuel Piasecky a Alexander Benko gymnastics Slovakia
Information and photo for Gymnastics-Slovakia.com from Martin Zvalo:
This morning (Sunday April 30th) I drove coach Jozef Konecny (left - silver medalist on vault at European Championships 1979 in Essen) and Slovak men Samuel Piasecky and Alex Benko to the airport in Schwechat, Vienna. They had to leave earlier, because of men's podium training is next Tuesday. The rest of Slovak delegation (juniors and judges) will leave on Monday from Budapest. Junior's podium training is on Wednesday.
I am not going to say our goals and predict results. I think they are very well prepared (just look at the results at the latest meets in Bratislava and Brno. In the trainings they were doing whole routines in the mornings and in the afternoons and they looked good. Their routines are very difficult so any little mistake ... That;s gymnastics. I think our gymnasts deserve to succeed because of all the hard work they have done. So cross your fingers and hope that everyone who is involve in artistic gymnastics in Slovakia will be happy after European Championships.
    From Bratislava Martin

Slovak Men's and juniors team meet 2006 March 17
    For gymnastics-slovakia.com from Martin Zvalo:
Members of senior and junior men's team of Slovakia had first test for upcoming European Championships on Friday in Bratislava. After code of points changed we tried to select new difficult element (D, E, F) which will increase start value close to 6.0 if we want to be successful in international meets. Slovak juniors added some new elements, now they are polishing it in routines. Samuel Kriska's floor and high bars look good, I can say the same about Filip Drahovsky's floor and parallel bars and Denis Snirer's rings and vault. I have a great expectation from only 14-years old Slavomir Michnak. He works on many great moves especially on pommel horse and parallel bars.
Seniors competed only on their strong events. Because of 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Samuel Piasecky trains all-around, but at World Cup series and at European Championships he will compete only on floor, parallel bars and high bar. He has a new floor routine but leg injury didn't allow him to perform it with full strength. He performed a nice parallel bars routine. Before European Championships he is adding new "F" element and new dismount. He is working on two new "D" and "E" elements on high bar and I hope he will add them in routine for European Championships. Alexander Benko added to his first tumbling pass double layout and he is working on front handspring - front layout with 900° turn. He has a great routine on pommel horse with start value 16.0 but yesterday he felt in the end of routine. Andrej Neczli started new job and new University and had not enough time to prepare for this meet. But we'll see him in next meet in April.
Samuel Piasecky leaves next Friday to Cottbus for 30th Turnier der Meister
